i've been on one of my art pilgrimages. Brussels and Ghent this time. I've paid my respects to Dieric Bouts the elder's "Ordeal by fire" to "the Fall of Icarus" and " the Fall of the rebel angels" by Pieter Bruegel (what a disturbing vision, all these beautiful creatures falling, cast out by their own kind, twisting and turning and screaming, turning into beasts, vermin, insects. Aaaaaaa!) and to Ensor's work, especially "Skeleton Looking at Chinoiseries". But most of all - the Ghent polyptych "Adoration of the Lamb" by Hubert and Jan van Eyck. it's one of these works of art that seems to be alive. an old, wise, holy creature of perfect
